Marine Home Page
We’re water people. WooHoo! More specifically, we’re fresh water people. Woohoo! Any questions?
If you want to get straight into the marine projects page click here. If not, keep heading south.
God Is Angry (Again)?
Actually, we hang near fresh water because God didn’t see fit to bless us with living near salt water. That’s sort of a bummer but we all make-do with what we have. Oh the inequity of it all (sniff).
Pass The Salt
Salt water vs. fresh water is sort of important here because salt water does things to water craft and everything else it comes into contact with that fresh water either doesn’t do or can’t do. They’re both corrosive but fresh water is only mildly so when compared with salt. We’ve got some great book-knowledge regarding salt water boating but that’s about it. So, we don’t get into salt here Walt.
What Happened To Your Skin?
We do know a good bit about fresh water stuff and that’s what we talk about here. In fact, we’ve got multiple people who’ve spent their entire lives on or near fresh bodies of water. You can identify them by their squishy, wrinkled and somewhat off-color skin and their propensity for napping in the truck on the way home from the lake.
Little WooHooers
We’ve even got little boat people. They’re WooHooers in training and we make special provisions for our small-people. Gawd, you just can’t wipe the cute off of them with cleaner and a rag.
“Marine” Sounds So Nautical
So that’s kind of what the marine section of DirtyShirt is all about. It’s good times for everyone but we make our own luck when we head to the lake. True, we all look forward to making the trip, packing food, being towed behind the boat on all manner of water toys but we do these things within a framework we’ve developed over time. The framework is meant to make sure we all come home – every time. We’ve all injured ourselves and had close calls of one type or another but there’s a big difference between an injury and being dead.
Danger Is My Middle Name
There are a lot of hobbies and personal interest activities that have an element of danger to them and being a boating enthusiast is surely one of them. Keeping the boat hull-side-down is mostly common sense but some people are neither common and seem to possess no sense. You can spot a water newbie (they often have a problem with alcohol) at the lake just as easily as if they were wearing a sign that says “I’m going to drown.”
Mullets Were Invented During A Bender
If you’re “that guy” – everyone knows and sees what you do and no you’re not the only person in 5 billion that is able to make appropriate decisions while under the influence – at the lake or anywhere else. Stay home, admire your (pick one: mullet, skullet, mulletinez, femullet, apedrape, neck-warmer, Camaro-cut, doggy-door, mud-flap, 10/90), or whatever, and drink there. Captain’s don’t drink and operate boats. They certainly don’t if they have a mullet of any description. Ever heard of the Exxon Valdez, Billy-Ray? Hint: We’re talking about hair-styles and not fish belonging to the taxonomic order known as Mugiliformes.
Who’s Naked?
Anywho, it’s not all drunken and naked college kids or grown-assed adults with way too much boat and way too few skills. It’s predominantly families who are out to have a good time, relax and spend time together. That’s what we do and we talk about the framework that we use to make that happen with the best possible outcome.
I Get It Now
Since this is a DIY site it should be no surprise that servicing and maintaining our gear is a huge part of keeping everyone safe and making sure we’ll have a good time. That’s where it starts, there’s a lot more to it than that and we’ll get into other related topics too.
What’s A Sea-Leg?
For now, haul your sea-legs over to the marine projects page and see what you can see to keep your vessel skipping across the water hull-side-down.
sure about exactly what they mean don’t sweat it, we’ve got your back. There was a time when we didn’t understand their significance either. We’ve learned and we'll share.
